Yesterday, over a dirty martini (there’s no better place for those than Manhattan), a friend said something that stayed with me.
She’s in the process of separating from the city and mentioned she wanted to join 40 Portraits of New Yorkers—to have something to leave behind, and at the same time, something to take with her.
Something meaningful, lasting, and connected to the community she’s been part of.
To be photographed—to take part in something collective and personal at once—is a way to honor our time here.
To leave a mark, and also to bring a piece of it home.
Maybe you’ve been having the same thoughts.
What do we leave behind—and what do we take with us?
Memories, experiences, tangible things…
A reminder of who we were, and how this city once held us.
The project 40 Portraits of New Yorkers was born from that same impulse—to pause, to look, to keep something real before it slips away.
Whether you’re preparing for a new chapter, finding your way through one, or simply taking a moment to reflect, 40 Portraits of New Yorkers is an opportunity to pause and celebrate where you are right now—alone, or with a friend or loved one.
Each session includes a portrait experience and a fine art print credit.
You’ll have the chance to bring home something timeless—an artwork that reminds you not just where you live, but who you are in this city, in this moment.
Spaces are filling up, so if you’re interested, let’s talk.
